A stadium with history - and a future
Built in 1954, the Heinz von Heiden Arena has been the centrepiece of soccer in Hanover for seven decades. Originally opened as the ‘Niedersachsenstadion’, it has been modernised several times and adapted to the demands of the times - from the athletics arena of the 1970s to the soccer-focused World Cup venue of 2006.
Over the years, the arena has had various names - from the AWD Stadium to the HDI Arena and today's Heinz von Heiden Arena, named after the main sponsor of the same name.
Since its extensive modernisation for the 2006 World Cup, the arena has undergone several technical upgrades. With a current capacity of around 49,000 seats (including over 8,000 business seats), the stadium now offers the perfect blend of tradition and modern infrastructure - and is ready for many more chapters of soccer history!

70 years of football history - and not a bit quiet
From legendary Bundesliga matches and dramatic promotions to European Cup nights - soccer history was written in the Heinz von Heiden Arena.
It was here that Hannover 96 sensationally won the DFB Cup in 1992 and the stadium went wild when the team was promoted back to the Bundesliga. International stars also honoured the stadium during the 2006 World Cup - including Spain, France and Italy.
With a passionate fan base behind it and a long history at its heart, the stadium is still a place full of energy today.
And for those who want to experience the action from a new perspective, the exclusive VIP areas offer the highest level of comfort, the finest catering and real proximity to the pitch - for moments that stay with you.
